Makai software training description

Which Makai software training courses do you offer?

Makai offers several different training options for our submarine cable software:
Level 1
The most common one is the MakaiLay Level 1 operator training. These training sessions usually last 5 days and can be offered multiple times a year depending on demand and availability. Trainings can happen at Makai's headquarters on Oahu, online through Amazon AWS instances or at  the client's locations. Training courses are usually limited to 5 participants per instructor.
In addition, Makai offers Level-1 trainings for MakaiPlan (3 days) and MakaiPlanPro (5 days).

Level 2 and Level 3 for MakaiLay trainings are much less common but can be offered on an as needed basis as well to operators that have the required experience.

MakaiLay Level 1 Virtual Training

The MakaiLay Level 1 Virtual Training is a 5-day course administered using Amazon Appstream and WebEx. Amazon Appstream allows users to access virtual machines in the cloud via a unique URL. The Makai software is installed and licensed on those virtual machine instances, so there’s no need for the trainees to have Makai software installed on their local computer. The software is run completely through your web browser, so a high-speed internet connection is required. We use WebEx for communication and screen sharing. We do highly recommend that trainees use 2-3 monitors, as you’ll want to take advantage of running Makai on multiple screens and also have some room for WebEx screen sharing. Upon completion of the training, attendees will receive a MakaiLay Level-1 Training Certificate in PDF format.

A typical Level 1 training agenda is below:

MakaiLay Level 2 Training

MakaiLay Level 2 training is offered to operators that have already used MakaiLay at-sea to manage real installations. The goal of the training is two fold: First, to reiterate and fill in any knowledge gaps that the operators might have in the basic operation of MakaiLay. Second, and more importantly, the goal is to focus on more advanced scenarios that might arise at-sea:
  1. How to deal with scenario when as-built lengths from factory are different than the planned cable assembly lengths.
  2. How to deal with emergency ship stops and cable engine stops.
  3. Managing Distance Deviation
  4. Managing Bottom Cable in Hand (In-line Accuracy)
  5. Emergency Ship / Cable Engine Stops
  6. Ploughing Operations
  7. Heavy Body (Repeater) Deployment
  8. Starting the Model in Deep-Water
  9. How to Calculate Vessel Waypoints Around Altercourse(s)
  10. Applying Roto Errors and How to Calculate Them
  11. What to do When the LookAhead Model Won’t Solve
  12. As-Laid Path Generation
  13. How to Move Model Time Back to Fix Non-Convergence
  14. Other customer-driven topics
In Level 2 training, operators systematically work through all the above scenarios and more so that they are prepared to address them correctly and efficiently when they arise at-sea.
